Bust A Move are posts focused on what Tyler and Megan are thinking and learning before, during and after their move to another country.
We’re about to spend a whole lot of time together (like the most time). Not to get all mushy on you guys, but this makes me super happy. I noticed this over abundance of 1:1 time didn’t make his “things I’m most excited about list,” but surely it was just an oversight. I’m excited not only because he’s really good looking, but he’s also pretty funny. Most of all he’s funny in the intentional way, pointing out translation blunders and hilarious signs like this one:
However, he’s also a hilarious travel companion for completely unintentional reasons—like asking directions in suuuuuuuper slooooooow, eeenuuunciated sentences to a fellow traveler from Singapore (fun fact: Singapore’s national language is English).
OR...the one time he wore a white cotton shirt on a hike to a temple in Indonesia. You see, you must dress respectfully to enter the temples, so Tyler wore a nice button up shirt. However, his shorts were deemed too short so he had to wear a sarong over his pants, which is essentially like wearing a blanket in the most humid weather imaginable. By the time we got to the temple, his white dress shirt was completely soaked through and he may as well have been shirtless wearing a skirt. Fortunately, the Balinese have a sense of humor and joined us in a laugh and bought him a giant water to cool off. Nothing like some overactive sweat glands to break down cultural barriers.
All jokes aside, Tyler is a travel savant. He memorizes maps, learns transit systems in the time it takes for me to blow dry my hair, and researches the best food like his life depended on it. Tyler and I travel well together because he builds the route in which we are to take every day, and I deviate from the plan by taking us into little alleyways and on spontaneous excursions. At the end of the day, Tyler always gets us back on track. Without him, I would both literally and figuratively be lost.
